BUYERS GUIDE:
Larix kaempferi, commonly known as Japanese Larch, is a fast-growing, deciduous conifer known for its graceful, feathery foliage and striking golden autumn colour.
Needles: Soft, bright green in spring/summer, turning golden yellow in autumn before falling
• Bark: Reddish-brown, becoming scaly with age
• Cones: Small, 2–3 cm, egg-shaped with reflexed scales
Care Requirements:
1. Light:
• Prefers full sun; partial shade is tolerated but slows growth.
2. Soil:
• Thrives in moist, well-drained, acidic to neutral soils.
• Avoid waterlogged or overly compacted soils.
3. Watering:
• Moderate water needs; keep the soil consistently moist, especially in dry or hot climates.
• Drought-tolerant once established, but young trees need regular watering.
4. Feeding:
• Not heavy feeders. An annual application of a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring can support growth.
5. Pruning:
• Minimal pruning required. Can remove dead or crossing branches in late winter or early spring.
